BASEC
Cable fire testing and CPR certification, Milton Keynes and Dubai.
The British Approvals Service for Cables tests and certifies cable, including the fire performance a specification for fire-resisting or low-smoke cable depends on. UKAS accreditation 5950 to ISO/IEC 17025 was extended to a broad range of cable fire tests — the EN 50399 large-scale vertical ladder test used for the Construction Products Regulation and the full IEC 60332-3-21/25 vertical ladder series — and BASEC is an approved product certification body (System 1+) and approved test laboratory (System 3) for EN 50575, the harmonised standard covering cables’ reaction to fire, alongside ISO 17065 and ISO 17021 accreditation. Its Milton Keynes laboratory is described by the organisation as the largest of its type in Europe. A £1.7m, 1,800 m² regional laboratory opened in Dubai in 2022 — the first in the MENA region dedicated to full type testing of low-voltage cable, later extended to medium voltage — with HCl gas emission and LSZH pH and conductivity rigs, and DEWA approval for low-voltage power cable type testing.
