Trading as BTTG, Shirley Technologies has been testing the fire behaviour of materials for over a century and covers the regimes that sit outside the building-furnace world: upholstered furniture and mattresses to BS 5852, BS 6807 and the BS EN 1021 series, construction products to BS EN 13501-1 through the single burning item and ignitability tests, aircraft interiors to FAR/JAR 25 Appendix F, and marine materials as an IMO Recognised Laboratory under the 2010 FTP Code, whose parts cover smoke and toxicity as well as flame spread. Its laboratories are in Manchester and Leeds, with commercial offices across Europe and Asia.
