The Materialprüfanstalt für das Bauwesen, an independent construction testing institution inside the Technische Universität Braunschweig whose declared focus is fire protection, structural safety and building waterproofing. With around 115 staff it is the largest testing establishment in Lower Saxony and one of the larger ones in Europe, and it is a notified body under the Construction Products Regulation as well as a body recognised under the state building codes, offering testing, expert opinion, surveillance, inspection and certification to manufacturers and contractors. Its site sits on the TU’s Campus Ost alongside the Institut für Baustoffe, Massivbau und Brandschutz — the research institute it shares its fire facilities with.
